It’s often said that moving is one of the most difficult situations to manage. But in our opinion, that should never be the case. There are a handful of ways to streamline your move, and it usually all starts with choosing the right moving company. Of course, there are still other things that you can take care of on your own. It’s so much easier when you plan ahead.
The Low-Stress Process for Managing Your Move
You want to make your move smarter, not harder. And these tips can help! We’ve gained a lot of experience over the years to help our clients have the best moving day ever. By doing a little prep up front, you can put your family in a better position to be stress-free.
1. Check Out Your Indianapolis Moving Companies
Every team is different. Be sure to read the reviews and even ask around to get referrals from your friends and neighbors for different moving companies. One of the best things to confirm is whether they work with employee movers. Those companies are more likely to have a solid training program in place.
2. Reserve the Moving Day ASAP
Don’t wait until the last minute. You want to lock down your top pick for a moving day and time. As soon as you figure out what will be ideal, connect with your moving company and get your spot reserved on their calendar. Especially if you’re moving during the peak season.
Also, remember that weekend moves fill up fast. They usually come with a slightly higher rate too. If you want to save a few bucks, take a look at the Monday through Thursday scheduling options. Otherwise, get your name in those Friday, Saturday, and Sunday timeslots so you can get settled into your new place before Monday rolls around.
3. Work from a Moving Day Checklist
When things go down! There’s no reason to try keeping everything in your head. Working from a punch list can help you feel less frazzled on the big moving day. Make a note for when the moving company is arriving and for the rooms that still need to be packed. Even jot down what you want to have for dinner that night. Every bit helps.
4. Get Organized Before Packing the Boxes
Tackling each room one at a time can help you keep up the momentum. Along the way, create different piles of things to donate or toss. This might take a little more time upfront, but it’s always nice to move into your new space without extra clutter.
5. Don’t Move What You Don’t Need
This is the next step for that previous tip. Actually, drop off your donation items! All of those old clothes, knickknacks, and kid toys should be out of the house before the movers arrive. For the larger items, call your moving company ahead of time and see if they can bring those pieces to a donation center for you. Then you won’t have to rent your own truck or bother someone else to get them off your hands.
