Are you tired of the bitter cold and can’t stop dreaming of warmer weather? You’re not alone. Spring is just around the corner which means summertime will be here soon, but not soon enough; so you, like many others, are planning vacations now. Packing for a vacation can be stressful, however, and Colt Moving, a local Indianapolis moving company, understands this, which is why we created a list of packing tips used typically for moving, that can also be used to make the process of packing for a vacation easier.

Make a List

The first thing you want to do before packing for a vacation, or for any type of occasion, is to make a list. Writing down everything you want to bring will ensure you won’t forget anything. To be even more organized, you can create headers on the list, like clothes, shoes, toiletries, and then under each section write the corresponding items you want to take.

After creating your list, it’s a good idea to find each of the items and place them by your suitcase, marking off each one as you go. Don’t start cramming your things into the suitcase however, start by laying your outfits down first, then roll them up together, and place them into your bag. By rolling your clothes, it creates more room in the suitcase for other items like toiletries.

Put toiletries in Ziploc Baggies

No one ever wants to experience opening their luggage to find out the shampoo has busted open and spilled all over their clothes; that would not be a good start to a vacation. To prevent this from happening, place all liquid-based items, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, lotion, etc. into Ziploc baggies. You can also tape down the caps to be extra careful and to prevent any messes from happening.

Have an Essentials Bag (Carry-On)

When moving into a new home Colt Moving recommends packing an essentials bag, so that after a long day of unpacking boxes, you’ll have all the necessary items needed to get a good night’s rest. A carry-on bag is similar to this. This bag includes all essential items, like your cellphone, cellphone charger, toothbrush and toothpaste, eyeglass prescriptions, medications, and usually an extra change of clothes. This way once you reach your destination, instead of wasting time unpacking, you can quickly change into that outfit, freshen up some, and you’ll be ready to enjoy your new surroundings.

As a professional moving company, we know packing for any occasion can be overwhelming and stressful, which is why we created this list of packing tips. You can view more packing tips like this here, on our blog site, which offers assistance in all things packing and moving related.
